# Maintenance and service The SMD3 contains no user-serviceable parts. ### Cleaning If the instrument requires cleaning, disconnect the power and all other connections, and wipe it down with a cloth slightly dampened with water or a mild detergent. ### Troubleshooting
Problem | Resolution |
Red and green status indicators off | Check that the power supply to SMD3 is correctly connected and meets the requirements given in section [Technical Information](https://bookstack.vps-da8d40f3.arunmicro.com/link/5#bkmrk-%C2%A0) |
Red status indicator flashing or lit solidly | Each indication corresponds to a fault, review section [Faults](https://bookstack.vps-da8d40f3.arunmicro.com/link/10#bkmrk-types-of-fault) |
Motor does not move when commanded | Is a fault present? Check the red status indicator on the front panel, and use the SMD3 software or remote interface to determine the nature of the fault. After the fault has been fixed, run the CLR command, or use the reset fault input to restore normal operation Check the motor wiring to the SMD3; disconnect the motor, and use a multimeter to measure the resistance of each phase, see section [Lead Identification](https://bookstack.vps-da8d40f3.arunmicro.com/link/7#bkmrk-lead-identification), which should be approximately 3 – 15 ohms |
Joystick does not work | Is joystick mode selected? If you want to switch to joystick mode automatically on connection of the joystick, see setting [AUTOJS](https://bookstack.vps-da8d40f3.arunmicro.com/link/14#bkmrk-%C2%A0-15) and section [Joystick](https://bookstack.vps-da8d40f3.arunmicro.com/link/10#bkmrk-joystick). The joystick must be wired correctly for the auto-detect function to work as described in section [Joystick](https://bookstack.vps-da8d40f3.arunmicro.com/link/10#bkmrk-joystick)[ ](https://bookstack.vps-da8d40f3.arunmicro.com/link/10#bkmrk-joystick) |
